What is The Trager Approach?

Dr. Milton Trager devoted his life to exploring the effects of gentle movement on the nervous system which he associated with the unconscious mind. His discovery was later called: The Trager Approach.
"The mind is the whole thing. That is all that I am interested in. I am convinced that for every physical non-yielding condition there is a psychic counterpart in the unconscious mind, corresponding exactly to the degree of the physical manifestation." 
Trager is categorized as psychophysical integration, and movement awareness education. It is designed to target unconscious holding patterns and bring greater ease, freedom, and comfort to the body and mind. Dr. Milton Trager believed that we are the sum total of all of our experiences. In Trager we are offering the nervous system new sensory information to choose from. We offer feelings of well being and ease that the mind can grasp onto and integrate for over all improved quality of feeling. The benefits of a Trager session are cumulative, with subsequent session allowing for deeper and longer lasting changes.
What is it like to receive Trager table work?
Trager is a very relaxing, gentle exploration of movement in the body. When it is given you are passive allowing the practitioner to move your body according to it's natural rhyme. It uses rocking, shaking, traction and mobilization to explore range of motion, freedom and ease.
Trager is done on a massage table. It does not require you remove any clothing. Minimal, to fully clothed is acceptable. When fully clothed - flexible, comfortable clothing is optimal.
The Trager® Approach
The flow of a Trager session given by Isabella​:
Your Trager session begins the moment you walk into my office and is finished when you leave. I will check in with you about your body, we will spend 5-10 minutes exploring sensation and bringing our attention to the body. This can include but is not limited to: walking, standing, and shifting weight while using simple visualization to bring more ease to our movements. This form of movement is know as Mentastics® and is considered to be the vertical equivalent of Trager table work. 

Table work is as described above. Once you are comfortable on the table I will take a moment to enter a state of "Hook up" - a meditative state used by Trager practitioners to better impart positive feeling to the mind through the body. I will check in with your as we work and invite you to feel comfortable to ask questions, or give feedback about what you are feeling or would like to feel.

When the table work is done a couple of minute are spent still on the table for integration and then I will guide you to rise in a way that is supportive of the session. Then another 5 more minutes will be spent noticing sensations and bringing awareness to how your body is feeling.
